Over The Rainbow
TIMESLOTSundays @ 8pm (Performance) & Mondays @ 8pm (results) on CBC.
SYNOPSISOVER THE RAINBOW documents the search for a new, undiscovered musical theatre performer to play the role of Dorothy in the upcoming Andrew Lloyd Webber and Mirvish Productions' stage adaptation of the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. This eight-week series, hosted by popular media personality, Daryn Jones, will feature one-hour performance episodes on Sunday nights and half-hour results episodes on Monday nights.
OVER THE RAINBOW will kick-off with a one-hour documentary that follows the cross-Canada audition process down to the choice of 10 potential Dorothys by the judges and Andrew Lloyd Webber himself. In the first live show the 10 Dorothys will compete, singing a mixture of Broadway and pop songs. In each half-hour results episode, the bottom two (as determined by an online public vote) will faceoff and one participant will be eliminated from the show by the judges.
One participant will be eliminated each week until only three remain in the final performance episode. The winning Dorothy, as chosen by viewers, will star in the stage production at the Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto beginning in December 2012. In addition, there will be a search for a dog to play the role of Toto in the finale episode of OVER THE RAINBOW. The search will be featured on the results episodes throughout the series, and will add an extra layer of drama and humour to the show.
